When you run your own business or manage an office space, you have many important decisions to make. You have to decide where to host the office holiday party, whether you’ll host employee birthday parties during work hours, and perhaps most importantly, when and how your business will be cleaned.

Day Cleaning vs Night Cleaning at your Business

It’s often considered easiest to clean when your employees and clients are less likely to be in your workspace. However, should you clean your office late at night or early in the morning to make the most of your time? Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of day cleaning vs. night cleaning at your business.

Cleaning your Business in the A.M.

Morning Pros: As many businesses don’t open until 9 or 10 am, it can be an easy window to get your cleaning crew in if you schedule them early in the morning. If they come in between 5-6am, they have plenty of time to tidy up the space and leave you completely ready for the upcoming day. Additionally, you may not have to compete with as many businesses depending on the hours of the companies around you. If cleaning crews are trying to fill this slot, you may be able to negotiate the rate and schedule a bit more than normal.

Morning Cons: If you have a business that opens early – like a coffee shop or daycare – cleaning in the morning isn’t as feasible. In addition, some businesses find that having cleaning crews in the morning may deter employees from getting a jump on the day. Still, these may be small hurdles to overcome in order to start a day completely clean.

Cleaning your Business in the P.M.

Evening Pros: Cleaning crews can come in as your employees leave to take care of the mess of the day. Additionally, you may not need to provide the cleaning crew with keys to your office if you prefer not to; workers who stay late anyway can lock up after the cleaning has completed. Cleaning crews that come in the evening can tackle carpets stains and more before they’ve had time to set. Plus, you’ll still be setup to start your day off right.

Evening Cons: If you have employees who regularly stay late or a client with an unexpected deadline, having cleaning crews in during this crucial time can break their focus. It can be disruptive to be trying to tie up your day only to be interrupted by a vacuum. If your cleaning crew is apt to encounter employees still working, be sure to have a policy in place about what can be down and what can’t to make the most of the cleaning time without interrupting ongoing work.

Ultimately, the correct cleaning time can only be determined by you. Each business is different but ultimately, making sure that your cleaning happens regularly is the most important thing.
