Your office has hardwood floors. They are lovely and bring a sophistication to your office space. You want to make sure to keep them looking that way. Taking the time to maintain and clean them the right way will help ensure that they stay looking their best for many years to come.

Hardwood floors can take a beating in high traffic areas just as much as any other type of flooring. From the grime and dirt, mud, and food tracked around in an office during the day, you want to make sure you keep on top of messes to avoid your hardwood floors from getting scratched and damaged.

How to Clean Hardwood Floors like a Pro

Keeping a hardwood floor looking great for many years isn’t hard. But you do want to make sure you clean it on a regular basis. As we mentioned above, stay on top of messes and spills as they happen throughout the day to keep them in good shape. One of the best ways we find to do this, is to set up cleaning stations with cleaning supplies in easily-accessible locations throughout your office space, such as:

  • under your sinks
  • in an easily-accessible cabinet
  • a cabinet designed just for your cleaning products

Hardwood Floor Cleaners and Tools

Next we should talk about hardwood floor cleaners and tools. Hardwood floors require a mild type of cleaning solution designed to clean gently but thoroughly. Vinegar and soaps as well as sponge mops with lots of water should be avoided. Water and wood is a bad combination. Instead, consider a damp microfiber mop head with your chosen hardwood floor cleaner in a spray bottle. Apply as needed and mop up. Repeat this cleaning process across your entire surface.

Rugs Save the Day

We also recommend rubber backed rugs in walkways and entrances to your office. These rugs can be a big help at catching a lot of the debri before it is tracked around your office space. These can easily be vacuumed each evening to keep them looking nice. If you have a service they will also remove them periodically and switch them out.

Refinishing your Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors can also be revived with refinishing every so often as needed. Maybe every five or ten years. It really depends on the wear and tear on your flooring, and how often the hardwood is cleaned and maintained that will determine if a refinishing is necessary. You can expect some scratching and wear throughout time because of the nature of the flooring. Be gentle, stay on top of messes that happen throughout the day, protect and clean them on a regular schedule and they should shine in your office space for many wonderful years.

Let Someone Help

An easy way to help keep your hardwood floors and entire office looking its best throughout is to hire a professional cleaning team to come and do the work. The cleaning staff should be educated on any special sanitizing needs, procedures, and requirements that are involved with having a presence in your office environment. And if you are hosting parties in your office this season, you can hire us to clean up after those parties, and even setup for beforehand.
