Every office space is set up a bit differently. In order to maximize the space you have and accommodate as many employees as possible in that space, businesses often utilize a variety of furniture pieces to differentiate workspaces, including both cubicles and partitions.

Differences between Cleaning a Cubicle and a Partition

As you’re likely aware, any of the structures in your office, including baseboards and cabinets, need to be regularly cleaned to maintain a healthy environment. Cubicles and partitions are no exception to this rule. Yet that begs the question: what are the differences between cleaning a cubicle and a partition?

Cleaning Cubicles

Cubicles: Cubicles are often used to create individual workspaces for employees. They usually include a desk and chair, some cabinets, and likely a computer. These spaces are most often divided by cubicle walls. Cubicle walls are often created using similar materials to partitions, though partitions often are only as tall as waist high. Cubicles need to be regularly and thoroughly cleaned. Of course, this includes all of the surfaces in the cubicle itself but cubicle walls can often be easy to overlook. Cubicle walls need to be cleaned inside and out including vacuuming and spot cleaning to remove stains. Cubicle walls can take a quiet beating, including splatters from spilled drinks and regular dirt and debris that is carried in on employees’ shoes. It is easy to scuff and dirty these walls in places that many are not looking regularly. If unaddressed, this dirt and debris can easily build up and may lead to needing to have your cubicle walls replaced.

Cleaning Partitions

Partitions: Partitions are also used to divide spaces, though they can be used for a wider variety of purposes. Partitions can include dividing spaces to create a break room, conference rooms, lobbies, and more. These modular walls can be placed anywhere in your office and each wall can have a different height and purpose. While they are often made of the same materials as cubicle walls, they can come in a variety of materials. Because partition walls are often more structural, it can be easy to forget that they need regular cleaning. Because people are often not sitting directly in front of these partition walls as they are in cubicles, it is much easier to overlook the build-up of dirt on these surfaces.

Either of these types of dividers can benefit from regular cleanings from a commercial cleaning company. You can extend the life of your cubicle walls and partitions by engaging in a deep cleaning every 12-18 months depending on how much traffic there is in your office. Similarly, after an office party or a client mixer, doing a one-time deep cleaning can be beneficial to make sure spills are addressed and stains don’t have time to set.
